The kitchen is the heart of the home...honestly it’s where you spend the most time right? It’s the place where you try new recipes, sneak in midnight snacks, make your morning coffee, talk with loved ones and share meals creating memories. For all of those reasons & more, it’s so important that your kitchen is functional (and beautiful of course)!
But before every remodel is a space that needs some help and guidance…
When our Trader’s Point clients came to us, they had recently purchased their home & although the bones were great- the layout/design didn’t fit their needs. The kitchen was COVERED in dark wood tones- wall paneling, cabinetry, trim work and ceiling beams. There was even a random window looking into the sunroom…we agreed on closing up any windows that DON’T actually look into the outside world. The layout itself was quite small with a doorway leading to the dining room. There was plenty of space to work with, it just wasn’t being utilized to its highest potential!
Now let’s talk about design choices: First and foremost- we knocked down the wall dividing the kitchen and dining room, allowing for a bigger kitchen that doubled in size, creating an open concept to the new dining space. The old tiles were swapped out for LVP, which brought in a more natural and textured feel. Next, we maximized the custom cabinetry space which allowed for a pantry, bar area & a glorious 12 foot island that also contained back-to-back cabinets built-in (extra storage where the counter stools sit). We opted for a shaker style cabinet with inset hardware for that ultimate custom feel. The home had gorgeous oversized windows, but we decided to paint the grids black to add a dark contrast against the white kitchen. We kept the color scheme neutral with a lovely pop of toned down blue on the island cabinetry. Brass hardware mixed with the stainless appliances creates that laid back feel. Because the island is soooo large, we wanted to give it a special focal point with these oversized, black & brass pendants!
Our clients ultimately wanted a bright, open concept with classic “clean” features. What was once a 70’s, dark, dated and depressing kitchen is now a bright, open and airy space.
